How to send a cold email for a virtual coffee meeting

How to request a short virtual coffee without sounding like a disguised sales pitch.

A virtual coffee ask works when the meeting itself is the value—learning, comparison, or perspective—not a stealth demo.

Be honest about the purpose

Say what you want to learn and why this person. If you later hope to explore a product fit, you can say that after trust exists. Leading with a fake “no pitch” while attaching a deck breaks trust quickly.

Keep the commitment tiny

Offer 15 minutes, propose two time windows, and include a calendar link only if it does not feel aggressive for the relationship. Make declining easy.

Example email

Subject: 15 minutes on how you staff first SDR hires?

Hi {{name}},

I am speaking with a few operators about how small teams handle the first outbound hire. Your thread on {{topic}} was useful, and I would like 15 minutes to hear what you would repeat or avoid. Happy to work around your calendar—or skip if now is busy.

Follow up once, then stop

If there is no reply, one short bump after several business days is enough. Persistence past that usually signals a pitch, not a coffee.

What to do next

Write one coffee request with a learning goal the other person would find reasonable, then send it to three people—not thirty.
